This week we had to create our own book for Te Reo using this weeks kupu hou.
We used the sentence structure, 'He ________ (kupu mahi) tēnei. This means: This is a _______.
Book creator was easy to use. You insert the picture your interested in, select a background and record yourself saying the sentence in te reo.

Narrative sample
I heard a whisper but no one was there...
It was a normal day sun shining and birds chirping perfect day for a jog I thought I was going to do my normal jog around the neighborhood but my ears pick me up off my feet when I hear someone talking about a forest he says “folks have been saying that there is a magic forest not far past the river they say it’s the most beautiful forest on the outside but dangerous on the inside” I think to myself he must be lying maybe he’s trying to scare people or something I’m gonna check it out.
I head off to the river “magic forest whatever, magic is fake harry potter is just a movie” I say to myself as I’m heading to the forest. I arrive at the river and there is a beautiful looking forest but is it the one he talked about I wonder, I look around for some way to cross the river and I see a rickety old bridge I quickly head towards it and push on it a little “seem’s stable” I say I cross the bridge with caution and easily make it to the other side I begin walking into the forest when I hear something I look around to see if there was anyone but nope nowone was there I continued into the forest and hear it again but this time much clearer it sounded like it said “turn back now” must be my mind playing tricks on me I strolled through the forest and hear it again as quick as a whip I spin around to see who was there, but again nowone I started getting goosebumps I turned back around and continued walking I looked up to see it was already mid-day, “I better start heading home” I said.
I turned around and started sprinting in the direction I originally came from and the forest seemed to never end I sprinted for hours and what felt like days and still wasn’t out of the forest I looked the way I came from and was shocked to see I hadn’t moved at all I was in the same spot, “maybe this place is really magic” I said just as I was about to look around I heard a voice again but this time it said “To escape you must find the kingdom and face me yourself” what could that possibly mean “I am in the middle of the woods with no sign of home and just trees around me were am I supposed to find a giant kingdom” I said frustratedly and then I heard something else not a voice more of a cracking sound then suddenly the floor below me began to crumble and crack I tried to get away but tripped and fell into the hole it was creating. I looked around and it seemed that I was in a cave well trapped in a cave because the surface was no longer visible. I then saw two tunnels one with a light coming from it and the other with nothing but the dark. I obviously went down the radiant one.
I walked down the tunnel with the light and saw some grass and some gold road looking thing I stepped onto I followed the grass and found what looked like the kingdom it was mostly gold but some of it was silver then two trolls came to me and said “come with us” so I did as they said because they didn’t look friendly they lead me to a big circle arena looking place he took me down to a room below surface level where there were people boxing, swinging swords and firing bows they seemed to be training I overheard one of them say “he won’t last one round” and as I walked I thought about what he said one round of what the troll’s finally stopped they told me to get ready and they left I was left there confused no long after the trolls left a man came and told me what I was doing he said “you are in a arena fight you must fight others to win the prize of freedom” I replied with “what do you mean freedom” “we are trapped here not being able to go anywhere but the kingdom” he said he then left I got ready for battle I had never fought before so this is probably gonna hurt I found some armor and a sword the sword was kinda heavy but I managed to use it I also found what looked like a pair of wings so I tried to put those on then they started flying around I tried to catch them but before I knew it they stuck themself to my back I practiced with them a little bit and mid way through practicing the trolls came back and said “your up, let’s go”.
I walked with the trolls to the arena and I saw a huge crowd cheering I heard who seemed to be the leader of this say “let the fight begin” A huge gate opened across the arena from me and a giant troll came out “defeat him and they let you go” said one of the trolls The gate behind me closed and the lizard charged at me I quickly flew up and the lizard smashed into the gate I healed my sword up and dived down the lizard was just as quick as me and spun around and wacked me with his tail into a wall my sword had flown out of the arena I quickly got on my feet and flew to the middle of the arena to grab another weapon this time I grabbed a bow and some arrows then flew straight up I fired a few arrows at the lizard but his skin was to thick he then tried to use his tongue to grab me but missed and knocked over a barrel of oil into the arena I quickly though of a plan I dipped my arrow in some oil and scraped my arrow on the side of the wall to create a spark my arrow was now on fire I lured the lizard over to the next barrel and one after another he knocked them off soon the hole arena was filled with oil the lizard was also covered in it I fired a arrow at the oil and everything went up in flames the lizard and the arena I had one the grand master said “here is your freedom” and I woke up back at the river I sprinted home as fast as I could and there it was my home. The End

For reading we have been reading fantastic mr fox we had to read chapter 1,2 and 3 then answer all the questions.

Setting carnival
It was a dark and stormy night. The carnival was closing for the night, citizens were pouring out of the carnival to get home. Later that night some teenagers were sneaking about. They broke into the carnival and began their scheme to spray paint and trash the place. A man had just finished work in the hospital he was headed home, then he heard some commotion coming from the carnival he went to go and check it out but the gate was locked so he assumed it was just a cat or something as he walked away from the carnival he heard a cry for help he quickly spun around to see what was there and saw a man then nothing.
Everything was black he couldn’t see anything. He then opened his eyes and saw himself in a colorful room, he looked around and found a red bag laying on the floor he picked it up and it was really heavy but he managed to put it on his back he observed his surroundings and saw a old wooden door, he approached the door with caution he slowly opened it and peaked inside of a gap in the door and saw that the door lead outside he then completely opened the door and stepped outside he was in the carnival he saw that the gate was still locked. So how did he get in here he thought, whatever or whoever brought him in here didn’t want him leaving he looked around for some sort of clue on who brought him in the carnival.
He went back into the room that he woke up in and there was an envelope on the ground that said the Great Escape he opened the envelope and inside of it said FIND THE REST in big letters with a clown face next to it. He left the room thinking about what said and the scream he heard before he was taken “were there other people in here two” he said to himself. He began exploring the carnival and found footprints leading to a carnival stand, he followed them and approached the stand with caution he peered over the front of the stand and saw a teenager behind the stand curled up in a ball hiding the man asked what his name was “Nathan” said the teenager “Mine is Joe, Nice to meet you nathan” “same here” said nathan “Come with me let’s find your friends'' said Joe Nathan leaped over the stand and began following Joe “so what happened” here said Joe “well me and my friends were gonna trash the place and do a bit of graffiti, but out of nowhere this clown looking guy came at us laughing and then I just woke up behind that stand with nothing but this key” then nathan held up a key it was a rusty golden key with a pattern on it in the shape of a clown “I also just woke up I was in the room over there with this backpack” as Joe pointed to the colorful room “and what do you think the key is for'' said nathan “dunno but I’m guessing it is to get out of this place” “ also where do you think your fro…” “HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!” came a voice from what seemed to be the ferris wheel “oh no it’s him” said nathan “who” “him!, the one that put us here” “RUN!” shouted joe they both sprinted away, they went and sat near the merry go round and looked around they couldn’t see the clown but they didn’t think it was gone, and they were right soon the clown was close he was looking around.
Joe took a good look at him and saw that he wasn’t your average clown he had sharp fangs and was holding a hammer, Joe picked up a rock and threw it as far as he could away from him the clown seemed to hear the rock land and ran that way, that was Joe and Nathan’s chance to run they ran over to another room similar to the one that Joe woke up in but it was all dark they then looked around and found one of Nathan’s friends “Bob are you okay” said Nathan worried, Bob stumbled to his feet and said “I’m fine a little bruised but fine” “Thank god” said Nathan “who’s this” said Joe “Bob nice to meet you” said bob “Nice to meet you to names Joe now back to what I was saying, do you know where the rest of your friends would be” said Joe “No but there’s not many left just Leo and Mike” Nathan explained “okay let’s get moving” To be continued….

Dream giver
It was a dark night clouds filled the sky with stars glistering among them there was a stick like figure zipping through the air stopping at house’s the figure was caring some sort of radiant bag whatever was with in this bag was illuminating some sort of yellow glow then the figure stopped at a window sill and steadily opened the window peeked inside and appeared to be a winged old man with what appeared to be goggles he seemed to be wearing a kilt or skirt. He flew into the room with caution trying not to wake the children that were inside.
He then pulled the sack from off his back an carefully placed it on one of the childrens beds he opened the sack and inside of it was glowing eggs six bright yellow radiant golden eggs he picked up one of the eggs and cracked it open he poured a yellow goo out of the egg it slowly oozed out of the egg then he moved it over top of a shoe that was on the end of the bed of one of the kids the goo from inside the egg flowed on top of the shoe then the shoe changed colour it changed golden and a ballerina came out from inside the shoe the girl in the bed was now dreaming of that.
He then poured more of the yellow ooze over top of a book at the end of one of the other kids bed the air filled with stars and an astronaut was flying about he seemed to be dreaming about a astronaut or maybe he was the astronaut the stick like figure seemed to be giving them dreams he was a dream giver he continued giving dreams to all the people in the house slowly the eggs disappeared because of the amount he was using the there were few eggs left on the bed and the child in the bed shifted his leg and knocked a egg off.
The egg landed on a book next to the bed that said a shadow serpent then the air was fulled with a purple mist the astronaut floating in the air looked around then the air began to turn into some sort of tornado the dream giver burst in the room and saw that the astronaut was being sucked in the tornado he went towards the tornado and was blown away by the shockwave that the tornado had created.The astronaut opened his eyes and was greeted with the sound of birds chirping and butterflies flying over head he seemed to be in a jungle he took off his helmet and took a deep breath in and out, he began to look about he soon sees some sort of ancient temple and the debris of it around the jungle he then finds a big opening and stares at it for a bit then accidentally knocks over a monkey statue.
He stumbles to his feet and fixes the monkey statue and behind him two giant yellow glowing eyes appear he turns around and sees the eyes he then runs and runs with the trees zipping past his eyes he soon comes across a cliff he turns around and the beast is their it was the size of at least 2 buses and then it let out a huge terrifying ROAR!!!!! The astronaut covers his eyes in fear and waits till it’s all over he opens his eyes and turns to look at the beast and is surprised to see the beast looking down at a splatter on the ground another splatter hits the ground then out of nowhere the dream giver comes and throws a egg he seemed to one be causing the splatter and two had entered the dream somehow roots begin to grow out of the ground from the eggs and are wrapping themselves around the beast a tree began to grow over top of the beast.
The beast had a tree now grown on top it of it and was completely tired out then suddenly the dream ended the kid woke up frightened and picked up his book and looked at the pictures it was exactly what he dreamed about the tree the beast him everything the dream giver quickly zipped out of the room with his sack and stick and just like that was gone into the night.
