Ihumatao

We have been learning about Ihumatao and the land issue. We had to choose a side: Maori or Settlers and write how it would of been at the time Here is mine:

“PREPARE FOR WAR” I shouted

I could feel my heart racing, my face burning and my teeth grinding.

We are going to take back our whenua from the Queen I thought.

I gazed around angrily. I could see my whanau arguing with the soldiers and men raising their taiaha ready to protect our land.

I could hear soldiers marching and guns rattling.

I could smell the smoke from the soldiers cannons.
